Give your opinion on the National Action Plan against antimicrobial resistance
From 6 January to 6 March 2026, the Federal Public Service (FPS) Public Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment is organising a public consultation on the draft National “One Health” Action Plan to combat antimicrobial resistance (NAP AMR) 2026–2030.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a serious threat to public health. For 25 years, Belgium has been taking coordinated measures to address this challenge and limit the associated risks. With the new “One Health” NAP AMR 2026–2030, the authorities aim to further strengthen these efforts and achieve concrete objectives by 2030, in line with national priorities and European ambitions.
The draft of the new action plan also pays particular attention to the responsible use of biocides, and more specifically disinfectants. The NAP AMR includes one specific action aimed at promoting the correct and sustainable use of disinfectant products, notably through a public awareness campaign and cooperation with various health sectors.
This action is also aligned with the Federal Biocides Reduction Plan (FBRP), which constitutes a separate but closely related policy instrument to the NAP AMR. This plan aims to prevent the development and spread of antimicrobial resistance, including resistance resulting from biocides, within an integrated “One Health” approach.
The actions relating to biocides and antimicrobial resistance also build on the results of the previous national action plan and are clearly continued within the new NAP.
Through this public consultation, the FPS Public Health wishes to give citizens, organisations and other stakeholders the opportunity to submit comments on the draft plan. This input is essential to ensure that the final action plan is relevant, effective and broadly supported, with due attention to the health of humans, animals and the environment. The public consultation is an obligation under the Aarhus Convention, which grants the right to participate in decision-making on environmental matters.
The draft action plan and practical information on how to submit comments are available at www.consult-leefmilieu.be.
